Occasionwear

There have been a couple of events I've been to recently which have required Occasionwear - it's a funny term, which still has an old-fashioned feel to it, of a time when matching shoes and handbags were the pinnacle of dressing-up.

The first was a hen-do outing to Chester Races. Hats were the order of the day, and there were some fantastic examples being sported - two of our gang caught the eye of Chester Races TV - good work ladies.

My outfit was created around the jacket which I found in the sale at Massimo Dutti, but you can find similar at Zara or Topshop. I paired it with my favourite Hobbs skirt, bronze heels, vintage brown snakeskin clutch, vintage khaki Jaeger silk t-shirt and fascinator from TK Maxx.

The second occasion was a ball, and I've never been a fan of the ball gown, always preferring to go with something either knee-length or ballerina length. I found this dress in French Connection (I am ignoring the fact that it's now hugely reduced in the sale, having paid full price for it) which felt formal enough without being to much of a gown, and paired it with some ages old black sling-backed stiletto heels from Kurt Geiger, and a cropped black Tuxedo jacket which I've had for years from Warehouse. My vintage zig zag clutch, a ring from Dorothy Perkins and bright red lipstick injected a bit of colour to this otherwise neutral outfit.
